Specifically, the post From The Gods.
The Shattered God
When a universe ends it is as though it never was. No details escape the absolut anhilation of reality. At least, in theory. Some bits of reality are not entirely real in the first place. They are something in between ideas and magic, endowed with more power than any other elenebt of reality. These bits are Gods. Gods are too clever and too powerful and too scared to be destroyed. They are not quite real enough and so they escape into what passes for the space between realities. In this realm without time or space the gods ponder the death of the past reality and decide how to go about the creation of the next. Plans are made and then the next reality is made from the only available resource, the gods themselves. The gods all survive, but are weakened, so they feed of the beliefs of the worlds people. Sometimes a god will not have enough belief and be unable to escape an appocalypse. But new gods are born as much as old gods die. As a god ages they become careless and do not shore up enough power to survive the end and the beginning.
After an effectively infinite number of realities, the oldest god, who some of the gods believed to be the first of all gods, made a proclamation. He had observed that gods are the enemy of realities. They are parasites, that feast on reality without being a part of it. They may work minor miracles to guide or help their believers, but once enough power is available, this protection ends. Certainly gods do not work to protect reality, and their gluttonous feeding drives each reality to its end. The gods who do try to protect reality end up dieing with it, to much power is required to stabilize the weakening of reality caused by the feeding of the gods and it is a thankless job. Furthermore the realities that have been created are not built to last, such a reality would require every drop of power from every god in the timeless interval. The old god had decided that this was to change. The past realities had been crafted by the gods and for the gods, the next would be from the gods but for itself. The old god decreed that the time of gods was ended. Reality itself deserved to shape its own future. So he took the reins and destroyed immesurable gods and created a speck. A speck of pure reality that on its own would create time and space, reality entire. With his own self he would imbue it with the power to begin. The old god then realized that even a perfectly crafted reality would in turn end. But this was the old gods final creation it must not be temporary. So the old took one small piece of himself and buried it in the nascent reality, and gave the rest of himself to start reality. That shard of the broken god would drift through the new reality and guide it. The shard would become a spark, drifting through intelligent life untill the universe approached its end. When that end arrived the spark would have the power to create a new universe, one free of the touch of gods. At least, in theory. In actuallity, the fact that this story is tellable indicates that the old god failed in that endeavor. Gods are ideas and magic, so the piece of the old god was still endowed with will and force. The fresh reality was not only aided by the spark, but shaped. And because that piece of the old god remains, every reality the old god ever knew lingered as well. In tiny sparks, half formed ideas, all lingered. Because the old god was unwilling to allow reality to come to an end, no reality will ever be free of the past realites.
I know I said that this post would contain the stories of of the Spark-Kin and the powers of the spark bearer, but those will have to wait for another time.
